Reviews of Facebook.com Applications

What is Facebook Hot Or Not?
A fast way to rate people’s hotness - or notness - on facebook on a scale of 1 to 10. You can get your friends to rate you, and keep scoreboards of your friends’ hotness, network’s hotness, and people you have rated as a “10.” Every once in a while you have to click the rate-r button twice.
In a Nutshell
This app appeals to the “people watcher” inside all of us. But how long can you people watch without getting bored? If you want to rate other people, and have other people rate you based on your physical appearance, this app is for you. It can get old quickly.
Setting it all up
Installation was pretty easy. It eventually brings you to an ad page promoting another one of hotornot’s facebook apps with no way to get back to your facebook app page or any facebook page for that matter, which is annoying. The app did break however when I uninstalled it through my profile page (as opposed to the “Edit my applications” page): it removed the ‘hot or not’ box in my profile, but not the link in my navigation on the left nor anything else related to hot or not, just the box. When I clicked on the now-dead link in my nav, they were very sorry for the inconvenience however.

Pros
The actual rating of people worked well, the rating/next-picture-loading process was pretty hot, and there was always another person waiting to be rated. No problems there.
Cons
Unfortunately, this app probably does more wrong than it does right: It does not save who you’ve rated for you, not in facebook or even in the hotornot database - within 5 minutes of rating people, logging out, and logging back in again I have already gotten some of the same people I’ve previously rated. Along with that, it only saves people for later viewing you have rated as a “10” and no one else. There is no more specific way to categorize who you see to rate other than by gender, and your main network/overall facebook network. Overall your options for the “hotornot” app are very limited. At the time of my review, hotornot seems to be having a problem (also noted in the app discussion board) and no one seems to have more than 15 total votes.
The Final Verdict
This is app is like sitting on a park bench: you can anonymously chip in your 2 cents about people, but you still can’t control the type of people you see. Sure you can choose only to rate women, or men but you can’t choose say, women/men in a particular town or area, or women/men of a certain age group. The lack of options really hold hotornot back from actually being the light and entertaining app it’s supposed to be. Instead it is stripped down so much that you will find probably yourself uninterested after your first few minutes of rating.
